Bruce Jenner... Who cares?

Hello readers,

Notes before reading:
- Bruce has said he would like to be called by male pronouns until his transition from male -> female is more complete.
- I am in no way shaming transgender or transvestites, I am merely expressing my view of why Bruce is the wrong role model for people going through this change.

I felt I had to make a blog post about this topic, I find it controversial but not in the typical sense. It's becoming more of an annoyance that someone's gender is trending and being on the news more than a massive disaster which has devastated thousands of people and effected millions of people worldwide.

Let's talk about why I think it's a big deal...

First of all, Bruce was born a male... becoming a female is still extremely abnormal (not my views, do not quote this out of context). Every minority has had a historical figure throughout time, during the heavy segregation of America, black people had M.L.K (Martin Luther King), during the repression of women they had powerful people bringing them forward in the male-dominated work place such as The Suffragettes, Margaret Thatcher and a more modern choice of Oprah Winfrey being the highest paid woman in America. The LGBT having hilarious icons such as Graham Norton and Ellen DeGeneres.

Now you're wondering, "so why is it a big deal with Bruce?"

Whilst these minorities had massive influences in life, they always had the right reasons, always to fight until the end and also be who they want to be. This is where I lead on about Bruce.

There's a conflict of interest with Bruce because not only is he not a typical transgender, he is famous because of his sports career, leaving me baffled with what type of icon people would see him as? Do they see him as a strong powerful woman that has achieved greatness within sports or is that now nullified because he is now a different gender?

One thing I often hear in the public during The Olympics is how much woman athletes actually look like men because they are 'flat chested with short hair', making that statement a degrading insult to woman but still acceptable because it's 'banter', so why is there so much hype over Bruce becoming a female sports icon for transgenders?

There's only one thing left for it... the Kardashian's, anyone or anything associated with them is going to have an immediate negative connotation. They live an unrealistic, reckless life style that has thousands of young girls and males captivated in their shenanigans, Bruce, on his own, would be a perfect icon for people to look up to in terms of having an icon for transgender therapy/treatments and being in the spotlight about it. However, because he'd been married to Kris Kardashian for I believe 25 years (?) most people have just slammed this as another 'publicity stunt' or another 'excuse to steal the limelight'.
