Nepal, the things we take for granted.

The aftermath.

Hello readers,

This article that I'm writing today comes with no ease. It's about Nepal, the earthquake and the things that we take for granted that they don't have.

Whilst Nepal are scurrying the dead from buildings, saving the malnutritioned and dehydrated from the rubble, the media was going through a 'who can gain the most influence' stage by reporting the story and being at the scene. Whilst people need to hear about the story, this doesn't stop people from jumping in. We take it for granted that we have the technology to save us and give us early warnings about such a serious earthquake - don't you think that hundreds of our reporters being there kind of rubs it in their face? But they aren't thinking of that, as I said, they are focusing on rescuing the potentially dead from the destruction.

Adding on to the media hype train, there has been a few stories written by people who have believed that Britain will now be struck by an earthquake this incoming earthquake has the potential to 'topple buildings' according to The Express.

There are a few facts you should know about England before reading on:
- England's last largest earthquake, magnitude 5.8 struck in 1931 in the North Sea
- No buildings or people were destroyed/injured during this earthquake but experts do say that if it had been closer, it would have toppled the earthquake resistant buildings.

England have never experienced a force such as 7.8 which the Nepali had to face. As mentioned in my previous blog, anything under magnitude 3 is barely enough to make your household items wobble.

My point of the last two paragraphs is that the media got what they wanted; to report this devastating story. Now they have a little snowball effect of people whom are paranoid about an 'after shock' or possible earthquake in England when our last 'biggest' earthquake, wasn't actually our biggest one since it in the North Sea. People need to calm down; England has the technology to know if something like this is going to happen and we need to have the power as a society to remain calm about it. Personally, the media should know better than to sensationalise something as serious as this, people worry too much as it is.

Please remember that you can donate to Nepal and funding their future back together, although, money cannot mend the lives of those affected by this devastation - thoughts to their families and friends going through this struggle.
