Open Tibia; the ups and downs & two reviews.

Hello readers,

Tibia in itself is quite an archaic game. Simplistic graphics but with a surprising challenge on PvP that revolves around entirely on the correct positioning and suiting yourself to be well equipped for the situation. This includes trapping people, blocking them and spawning magic walls so that they cannot get out and your team can kill them.

'Real' Tibia, as it is called, peaked at a 52,000 player base and now dropped down to an average of 8k-10k back in November. There is also a reason for the dramatic downfall to their population, which is the fact that the Open Tibia servers (private servers) are siphoning players from the real game, with good reason. 'Real' Tibia's premium feature allows you to access all content, however, you lose out on 50% exp (happy hour) and countless amazing hunting spots and immense queue times, Open Tibia servers has a unique system of how you level (experience stages), gain magic level and skills, how much you're looting per sit session etc...

I want to write a review on one Open Tibia that I play that bugs me the most.

First review: Global -OT.net
Global-OT.net is a server that I have been playing recently. Despite being told to avoid this OT because of the balance issues pre-reset (reset = everyone gets deleted and starts over) in mid 2015.

Prior to the reset, there were custom infinite runes that made PvP truly dreadful, however, this is no longer an issue because they have removed nearly all custom content and items.

The server has started up again and is now more fun to play than ever. The OT itself is just like real Tibia, no massively edited items such as custom runes, no infinite potions but there is ONE twist to this OT which makes it ultimately unique - the normal runes are infinite. I actually like this, I'm normally play a mage or a paladin and was quite frankly sick of capping out of avalanche, sudden death runes and magic wall runes.

Some more information about the server can be found below - if you like Tibia, I urge you try it.

The additional bonuses of this OT and why I'd recommend it is that it's hardly had any downtime, it's completely lag free despite there being over 500 people on at prime time. Server save is early in the morning so it doesn't disturb too many people.

To top it off, people that were found abusing a few exp glitches with PvP-Enforced were actually deleveled as a result of this. This server seems to actually punish people who try to cheat.

Second review: Gunzodus.net
Gunzodus.net owned by Vallais and Gunz. There have been countless number of GM abuses from 2011 to 2013 and now in 2015.

In 2013, there was a GameMaster named Chosen that decided to give his account out to people, which of course allowed them to teleport people into quest rewards and allow them to get premium points (donation points) completely free and effortlessly. What was their solution to this? Ban the GM but don't roll back the damage that he had caused.

Now, in 2015, there have been a couple of issues that have bugged me. People receiving countless amount of donation points for free, to the owners unfairly boosting their friend's characters because they know them which knocked a few people off of the leaderboards. Why does this have such an effect? For people that don't play Tibia, there is no level cap, you can grind for hours and reach the highest level as your concentration will allow so someone being boosted to one of the top 10 on the server, is quite of a big deal. They also had the audacity to try and clear his deathlist (when you die, everyone knows who killed you, when and what day.) in a pitiful attempt to hide up the death of this person (this is an admin feature not a player feature).

Not to mention that the server lags every 5 minutes for about 2-3s which is absolutely crucial for any Tibia server, because the slightest lag is the difference in whether you live and whether you die.

The players of this OT are also having their IP addresses being given out by the GMs and by the team that uses the Teamspeak - the reason for this, they were in my teamspeak for a while (the people that are dosing) and they were bragging about how they stopped a whole team from coming to kill them whilst they were hunting - you are not safe connecting to this OT.

Update as of 25/05/2015 - Gunzodus.net just recently experienced a hacking where the registered users had their details stolen, people have already started on the forums about the items that they have lost.

Update as of: 27/05/15 I am currently making a post on the forums about the recent issues, I was warned by the owner of this OT that if I lodge another complaint, I would be banned. We will see the verdict. The topic has received thousands of views, the owner has been in contact with me, asked me to send all the relevant proof about their duping - he came back with "I can't do anything."

Verdict / conclusion:
I'd recommend people not to join Gunzodus.net - the server appears to be riddled with corruption, friends-with-benefits that can and will literally dupe items in front of the owners and despite proof being given to him, and from what I have seen personally, remain unbanned and allow to play the server.

The players are climbing on the leaderboards with no effort of his own. Also the rates need to be decided before the start of the server and not changed a total of three times in total after the server has launched and someone has reached the highest level, it does seem to make it a tad unfair.
