Steam; $5 limitations to come

Hello readers,

This topic that I’m going to be writing is about the famous game library engine that millions of people use; which of course is Steam. They have recently announced a few changes to their policy and system that could affect quite a few thousand people.

The limitations will be as following; people will have to spend a minimum of $5 on a game on their account to be able to unlock the features (see below). There is a flip side to thus; if a purchase is made and then an issue is launched and there are no other purchases on the account then the things that you have unlocked will be revoked from your account again.

What limitations are applied?
Such accounts limit access to a number of popular Steam account features, including:
  • Sending friend invites
  • Opening group chat
  • Voting on Greenlight, Steam Reviews and Workshop items
  • Participating in the Steam Market
  • Posting frequently in the Steam Discussions
  • Gaining Steam Profile Levels (Locked to level 0) and Trading Cards
  • Submitting content on the Steam Workshop
  • Posting in an item’s Steam Workshop Discussions
  • Accessing the Steam Web API
  • Using browser and mobile chat

I am going to take a guess that these limitations are being added because of real-time money traders, scammers and spam/phishing accounts. Whilst some people may be effected by this change, you wouldn't really download a game manager without the idea of realistically buying a game at least once in the lifetime of your account... At least, I know I wouldn't.
