Guild Wars 2; refunds available and new character slots!

Hello readers,
as some of you are aware, there were quite some sparks flying around at ArenaNet on the announcement of how much the expansion Heart of Thorns was going to be costing us (the consumer). Some people went on the forums, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and map chat to express how disheartened they were at some of the things that weren't included in the standard pack.

ArenaNet have made a topic on their website detailing that their pre-purchasing plans have now changed.

What does this mean for pre-purchase?
- If you buy the standard edition of Heart of Thorns for £35 ($50) you will obtain ONE free character slot.
- If you buy the Deluxe/Ultimate edition of Heart of Thorns £49.99/£74.99 ($75/$100) you will now get TWO character slots

Gaile Gray confirms on Reddit below:
This also includes the $75 version
I bought the game with the pre-purchase what can I do?
ArenaNet have also made a comment about this:

"For all players who purchased the Guild Wars 2 core game from our website and registered it between January 23, 2015 and June 16, 2015 in anticipation of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, we will automatically refund what you paid for the core game should you decide to pre-purchase Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our website or in-game store any time through July 31, 2015." <- could this be an indication for the release date?

Breakdown (with pre-purchase):
- Refunds are available for the core game and only if you bought it from their website www.guildwars2.com.
- Your accounts will not be banished/deleted if you decide to initiate the refund process. They have assured you on this (only if you pre-purchased, read below about sole core details)

Limitations:
- Has to be from their website
- Has to be within the specified date (in bold above)

If you want to refund the core game and haven't pre-purchased:
ArenaNet have also made a comment about this:

"If you purchased the core Guild Wars 2 game from our website and registered it between January 23, 2015 and June 16, 2015, and you no longer want to play Guild Wars 2, we will refund your core game purchase price and close your account provided you make the request by July 31, 2015. Please contact our Customer Support team to make this request."

Breakdown (without pre-purchse):
- If you submit a request for a core game refund and you haven't made the HoT pre-purchase, your account will be closed but progress will be left in tact if you wish to repurchase it at a later stage.
- This only includes game codes from their website.

Third-party purchase & notes:
- "If you purchased the core game from a third party, we are unable to provide a refund."
- Any refund requests initiated after the 31st will not be applicable and I assume will be automatically closed.

Conclusion;
Whilst I expressed my concern on the way that people acted towards this, I feel that ArenaNet have chosen to please the masses, which is fair, because they want to keep the integrity of their business model and also good customer services.

I like the fact that they have chosen to refund people the core game if they chose to send a refund request through; it's extremely kind of them.
